Monday, February 1st, 2010

Well Folks,
Vacation and tourist season is only a month away and starting around February 1st, Hilton Head Island is going to be flooded with the yearly tourists seeking fun in the sun, beach time and sun tans. The smell of tanning lotion will be in the air. In this post, I want to cover the top Hilton Head Island Public Beaches. All public beaches have pay per park slots and usually hovers around $1 per hour. Please abide by the parking rules as you will be ticketed or towed.

Coligny Beach

Coligny Beach is located on Coligny Circle at the end of Pope Avenue on the South end of Hilton Head Island right behind the Holiday Inn Ocean Front. Ample parking can be found directly across the street on S. Forest Beach and can be accessed from Pope Avenue right before The Smokehouse. Handicap Parking can be found around Coligny Circle itself and all is wheelchair accessible. Coligny Beach is very popular and is the #1 beach for toursist due in part to the ever popular Tiki Hut and surrounding restaurants, shopping and gift stores.

Adler Lane

Adler Lane Beach is located just down the road from Coligny Beach on S. Forest Beach Rd. Located next to the Marriott Grand Ocean Resort, it’s almost a hidden gem that only “locals” go to. Limited parking is available at .25 cents per 15 minutes and once your there, be sure to check out Pool Bar Jim’s located behind the Marriott Grand for some of the best fresh fruity drinks on the East coast. The beach itself is usually uncrowded and a great place to relax.

Dreissen Beach Park

Dreissen Beach is located mid Island off of 278 (William Hilton Parkway) on Bradley Beach Rd. A large parking area is available and includes many amenities such as showers, water fountain and vending machines. An easy walk to the beach and is wheelchair accessible.

Folly Field Beach

Folly Field Beach is located at the end of Folly Field Rd. A limited number of parking (50 spaces) are available and is $1/hour. A very quick walk to the beach and has restrooms, showers and a water fountain. At just 100 yards away at the Beach and Tennis Club, there is an outside bar to get food and beverage and sometimes will even have music.

Beach Regulations

Beach regulations are laws put into effect by the town of Hilton Head for your safety and the safety of others around you. (including wildlife).

1: There is absolutely no alcohol of any kind allowed on the beach. Beach patrol is driving/walking around and if caught you will be hit with a $1000 fine. You read that right…A thousand dollars!
2: Keep off sand dunes. Sand dunes are very fragile and are used to protect the island from storm surge. There are also many plants and wildlife that live among them that cannot be disturbed. That goes for sea turtles and their nests also.
3: The removal of any sea creatures is also looked down upon. This includes crabs, starfish, sand dollars, etc. Let them enjoy the beach too as it is, in fact their home.
4: Any kind of motorized beach crafts are forbidden to park on the beach. The ideal use of these vehicles is 150 yards off sure to protect those that are smimming.
5: During tourist season from Memorial Day through Labor Day, pets are only allowed on the beach prior to 9AM and after 5PM. Pets will not be allowed during the day. All pets must be on a leash or be able to respond to voice commands very well. Picking up pet waste is a must and comes with a fine if caught. Please dispose of properly. We love pets but, keep our beaches clean.

Have a happy and safe vacation to Hilton Head Island!

Hilton Head Island St. Patrick’s Day Parade 2010

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

Well folks,
Spring is on it’s way here on Hilton Head Island and what a better way to kick off the warm weather and tourist season that a St. Patrick’s Day parade. The parade will be slated for March 14th and will most likely take the same route along Pope Avenue from Coligny Circle and up around Sea Pines Circle. The event will have around 100 entries and usually brings in 22,000 people. A few things to remember while attending the St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Hilton Head Island.

1: Traffic will be closed to Pope Avenue early in the afternoon, get there early or find alternate means of getting to the parade route.
2: Do not park illegally! You will be ticketed and towed (at your expense of course.) A police tow at $300+ dollars and is not a good way to enjoy the festivities.
3: Speaking of fines, there is NO alcohol allowed outside of designate areas. Designated areas refer to bars/restaurants property only! Do not stop off the property, carry an open container (plastic or not) down sidewalks or across the streets. You will be ticketed and it comes in the form of $1000! That is correct.
4: The next point should be obvious but I will mention it because people do get arrested for it. Port o’ potties are not only conveniently placed throughout the parade route and parking lots, but are a must use. Every year there seems to be arrests for people going behind a tree or building. This equals a free ride to Beaufort County jail courtesy of a backseat in a white car, not a yellow one.

Now it is time for the fun beyond the Hilton Head St. Patrick’s Day Parade. If you are going to be a newbie this year, expect a lot of bands. Wild Wings always has a full day event that will go into the late night. Across the street at New York City Pizza and adjacent Remy’s Bar, the parking lot will have bands rockin as well. Take a few steps up to Aunt Chilada’s and there will most likely be live entertainment inside starting after the parade. Look for all the top Bluffton/Hilton Head and surrounding areas bands to be playing. Yes, it will be loud and there will be alot of drinking and partying. Thats why we go and celebrate, right? Speaking of beer, there will be several tents set up in all the parking lots to quench your thirst. OH! and don’t forget about the yards of beer = good!

I will post all the band line-ups once they are available and set in stone so check back or, visit the official nightlife page Hilton Head Island Nightlife Click Here! Hilton Head Island Nightlife website has all the hot places to be and lists all the hot bands. It will keep you informed 24/7/365.

Keep an eye out as all the new info will be posted soon!
Happy travels.
