When you dream of the coast, I’ll bet money that you’re fantasizing about sandy beaches, the warm sun shining down, and gentle waves washing up between your toes. Everyone tends to do this. But what if I told you about a different kind of coast? The kind that offered a chilly breeze, on and off sunshine, and cold waves crashing into a rocky shore. A familiar past-time for visitors along the Oregon Coast is the fine art of beachcombing. The Pacific Ocean brings in many treasures if the individual has an eye for it. If you aren’t familiar with this term, it means exactly what it’s — people comb the beaches looking for a variety of trinkets and beauties.

You will want to carry plastic bags just in case you find something and a stick in case you want to poke around. Also, pick up a tide table at the chambers of commerce, the sporting goods stores or any of the marinas. Now that you’re ready, there are a few safety tips to know.

First, don’t turn your back on the ocean. You won’t ever know when a sneaky wave might come and catch you by surprise.
